Rezolution Pictures signs development deal for Dirty Red Boys series with APTN
Created by Jeff Barnaby, Director of Rhymes For Young Ghouls and
Emmy-nominated writer/producer Sam Egan
Montreal (January 27, 2015) – Rezolution Pictures is excited to announce a new dramatic series in development, Dirty Red Boys, created by award-winning Mi’gmaq writer/director Jeff Barnaby and Emmy-nominated writer/producer Sam Egan. Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) has commissioned 8 x 1 hour scripts of this series that looks to re-imagine the traditional crime family drama through the eyes of Native values and codes, set in a world seldom seen on television or in film. This is the harsh world of First Nations criminals, filled with smuggling, violence and “crazymakers”, the intersection of hope and hopelessness and a place where nations and cultures collide.
Jeff Barnaby is the multi-award winning writer/director of the acclaimed film Rhymes for Young Ghouls, which is set in the context of the abuse and violence of the residential school systems of the 1970s. Sam Egan is the Emmy-nominated writer/producer of numerous television dramas, including V, Northern Exposure, Sanctuary, The Listener, Jeremiah, and Masters of Science Fiction.
Rezolution Pictures’ critically acclaimed series on APTN, Mohawk Girls just wrapped up its first season. John Doyle of the Globe and Mail calls it “gutsy…hilarious and consequential” and it has received favourable notices from several media including the Toronto Star and Canada.com.
Dirty Red Boys is based on an original concept by Executive Producer Catherine Bainbridge.
This project was made possible by the Bell Media CTV-CHUM Tangible Benefits program.
