Heavy Metal: A Mining Disaster in Northern Quebec

DOCUMENTARY 🔴48MIN 🔴 ENGLISH 🔴 CREE

a hard-hitting documentary about the environmental devastation caused by toxic mining waste, and its impact on a small Northern community.

The documentary film "Heavy Metal: A Mining Disaster in Northern Quebec" tells the story of Joseph Shecapio Blacksmith's search for truth regarding the health and environmental impacts of nearby mining activities in the Cree community of Oujé Bougoumou. Blacksmith had noticed unusual diseases impacting his family and deformed fish being caught by local fishermen. Despite his concerns, Quebec officials dismissed the evidence and urged residents to continue consuming the contaminated water and fish. The film explores the link between toxic waste from mining operations and its effects on human health. It also raises questions about the authorities' lack of response to the ongoing disaster. The documentary seeks to uncover the truth about the amount of waste dumped on Cree land, the health consequences of the toxic waste, and the reasons behind the authorities' negligence.
